Joanna Griffin - Pomegranate Clay Studio

Pomegranate Clay Studio offers field trips to local schools or groups – maximum #22 children – 1^st grade and higher.    Joanna especially delights in sharing the experience of clay with young children.  Together we discuss properties of clay and pottery.  Demonstrations, games, and each child participating in a hands-on turn at the wheel… operating the wheel and feeling the clay cylinder spinning smoothly through their fingers. 

In a second part of the field trip, Joanna then goes out into their classroom taking preformed small plates, which the children decorate with underglaze colors and eventually are able to take home after glazing and firing.  This is a great lesson in use of color/pattern and achieving a finished piece of artwork in a new medium.
